Berlin, 25.01.2019. The award of the Elbe-Spree network (NES) has been decided: Ostdeutsche Eisenbahngesellschaft mbH (ODEG) has been awarded the contract for lots 1 and 4 of the NES network by VBB Verkehrsbund Berlin-Branden- burg, Verkehrsgesellschaft Mecklenburg-Vorpommern VMV and Nahverkehrsservice Sachsen-Anhalt NASA.

Lot 1 includes the regional express line RE1, which connects Magdeburg via Berlin and Frankfurt (O.) with Cottbus. The line will be served by new 6-part Siemens Desiro HC. These trains have more than 630 seats and will run three times per hour between Brandenburg a. d. Havel and Frankfurt (O.) during rush hours.

Lot 4 includes the RE8 line as well as other regional train lines. The proven Stadler KISS fleet of ODEG will be used on the RE8 and the RB17 in future. The KISS trains will undergo comprehensive modernization and will be equipped with free Wifi and a new passenger information system. This existing ODEG fleet will be supplemented by further vehicles of the type Siemens Desiro HC, 4-part, for the traffic on the RB17 and the RE8.

The contract comprises a total of 13 million train kilometers per year. Operations will start with the international timetable change in December 2022. The contract has a term of 12 years.
